VILLA POLPO
ABOUT US
Escape to the sun-drenched beauty of Puglia and discover Villa Polpo
Welcome to Villa Polpo.
We are Roos (54) and Hans-Peter (53), and we live in the historic city center of Hoorn in North Holland. With our now-adult children, we've dreamed for years of living abroad, somewhere where life moves a little slower, where you dine al fresco under the stars, and where you're surrounded by nature, culture, and good food.
Italy had been at the top of our list for a long time. The people, the food, the way of life—it all suited what we were looking for. During a longer holiday in Puglia, we were truly enchanted: the tranquility, the rhythm of the seasons, the scent of wild fennel and rosemary, and the endless views of olive groves and the sea. We decided to embark on an adventure and, with the help of a local architect and builder, finally found the perfect plot of land. It felt right immediately: spacious, quiet, and with a sea view from the highest point.

The villa has been named Villa Polpo. It's inspired by the tile tableau by artist Bea Peters of 1000graden.nl that hangs on our large terrace, depicting a Burgundian octopus with a fork, bottle of wine, and glass, enjoying the important things in life: good food and drink. And there are plenty of places to eat and drink in Puglia.
The villa sits on 2 hectares of land, surrounded by 77 olive trees, 106 almond trees, 6 fig trees, 2 pomegranates, 2 medlar trees, and a grapevine. All southern Italian olive trees are threatened by a bacterial disease (Xylella). Together with a local biologist, we are doing everything we can to protect our trees. We have also started planting diverse vegetation for a healthy orchard, are working to improve biodiversity, and are doing our part to prevent climate change wherever possible.

We hope to welcome Italy lovers and explorers who want to enjoy peace, comfort, luxury, and the authentic Italian Puglia; families with (older) children, friends traveling together, or couples who love exploring, tasting, and truly getting away. To get around easily during your stay at Villa Polpo, having a car is essential. You'll then have plenty of freedom to discover the region's charms at your own pace.
